Desk Research
Explored existing tools and sustainability labels and analyzed fast fashion’s hidden impacts on the environment and labor.
Key insights
Most people avoid planning their funeral—only 30% are prepared
In the Netherlands, death rituals focus more on honoring the death than the idea of an afterlife
Graveyards are seen as spaces for reflection, not just burial
Survey
Understand more about the current knowledge and interest of people in the quality and sustainability of their clothing.
Key insights
Most users lacked knowledge about clothing materials but wanted to learn
Simplicity and speed were key especially while shopping
20 participants said they would use the app; 14 would if it was easy to use

Brand values
Loom wants to make it easy for people to make smarter choices about their clothes. By giving their users quick access to information about quality, sustainability, and ethics, we hope to inspire them to buy less, but choose better—picking items that last longer and are better for the planet.

Final concept: Loom
Loom helps users make smarter fashion choices by quickly decoding clothing materials and their impact.
Scan
Tap the central camera button to snap a photo of a clothing item or label. Loom instantly identifies the material and checks for sustainability certifications.
Decode
Loom analyzes the fabric content, durability, and ethics—providing scores for quality and sustainability. It flags issues like synthetic blends or poor labor practices.
Understand at a Glance
Results are shown using clear, color-coded tags like Good, Fair, or Great, with quick tips for care and repair.
Personalize
Users can set their own values (e.g. vegan, recycled, labor ethics), track recently scanned items, and build a virtual wardrobe.
Learn More
Each result comes with short explanations and optional deep dives for those who want to explore further.
In seconds, Loom turns a photo into a clear overview of how good or bad an item really is.

Prototyping & Testing
Overall notes on the experience:
Gif animations were suggested for onboarding to boost engagement
"Analyze product" button wasn’t always noticed, this led to color and layout refinements
Users preferred to understand how scores were built and wanted more transparency about material origin and labor ethics
There is a need for an increase in education visability
Concluding Remarks
What I Learned
This project was a chance to create something that supports better choices in everyday life. It taught me the value of building on a strong idea, testing often, and designing with purpose. Loom means a lot to me—not just because it works well, but because it stands for something I care about.
